Beauty resolution: Take a trip to the hairdressers every six weeks
Why it’s the perfect pledge: If you’re keen to follow the ‘New Year, New You’ route, the biggest and best way to make an impact is with a spandangly new hair-do, but that doesn’t mean to say a quick forty-minute trim of those tresses won’t leave you feeling fantastic either. Regular trips to the hairdressers will not only leave your hair in tip-top condition, it’ll make it easier for you to stay on top of the latest hair trends too - just in case you do ever wish to dabble in some designer locks.
Says who: Mark Hayes, International Creative Director at Sassoon can’t stress enough the importance of getting your hair cut every few weeks. ‘Don't make the mistake of just not getting it cut - regular trims are a great way of maintaining the look and condition of growing hair and will eliminate the need for a more drastic cut later on.’
Daniel Galvin agrees, ‘Even if you’re trying to grow out a style or have your hair longer, it’s always good to get your hair cut regularly – just to make it look beautiful while it’s growing out, especially if you’ve been using heated appliances as they can make hair look dry very quickly. Try an intensive conditioning treatment to give your hair a boost between salon visits, and for extra oomph, wrap hair in a hot towel after you’ve applied the treatment - the steam will help the product penetrate the hair shaft for smoother, shinier results.’
But it’s not just conditioning remedies that’ll make or break your barnet, Anthony Pytlinski, Creative Stylist at Obsession Salons favours styling products too. ‘Hair is the most versatile accessory you have so it’s essential to use it and push it to the limits – use waxes and pastes for sassiness, and serums and sprays to vamp you up!’
The products: Sassoon’s Professional Advanced Condition, £12.50 (www.sassoon.com), Daniel Galvin’s Intensive Conditioning Treatment, £22 (0207 486 8601) and L’Oreal’s Play ball Motion Gelee, £12.25 and Texture Tonic, £11.25.
